Drive from Moshi or Arusha to Shira Gate and begin trekking across the Shira Plateau. Enjoy wide-open landscapes and views of Kibo Peak as you head to Shira Camp 1.
Trek across the Shira Plateau with gentle elevation gain. Enjoy scenic views and optional acclimatization walks in the afternoon.
Ascend gradually toward Lava Tower for acclimatization before descending to Barranco Camp through the scenic valley. This “climb high, sleep low” day aids altitude adjustment.
Climb the Barranco Wall and continue trekking through ridges and valleys to Karanga Camp. This shorter day allows for acclimatization and rest.
After breakfast, trek to Barafu Camp, the base camp for the summit attempt. Arrive early to rest and prepare for the midnight climb.
