This is an important acclimatization day, following the principle of “climb high, sleep low.” You ascend gradually toward Lava Tower, a striking volcanic formation standing at 4,630 meters. The landscape transitions into alpine desert, with dramatic and rugged scenery. After spending time at higher altitude, you descend to the sheltered Barranco Valley, where the camp is set beneath the impressive Barranco Wall. This descent helps your body adjust, preparing you for the days ahead.

The day begins with the ascent of the Barranco Wall, a rewarding and enjoyable scramble that offers stunning views as you climb. Despite its appearance, it is manageable and often becomes a highlight of the trek. After reaching the top, the trail continues across rolling ridges and valleys toward Karanga Camp. This shorter trekking day allows for additional rest and acclimatization, giving you time to relax and recharge in a peaceful alpine setting.

  • Elevation: 3,976m to 4,200m
  • Distance: 6 km
  • Hiking Time: 4–5 hours

Upon arrival, you have time to rest, enjoy a nourishing meal, and prepare mentally and physically for the summit push. Your guides will provide a detailed briefing to ensure you are well prepared for the early start ahead.
