Detailed Itinerary

01

Day 1: Machame Gate to Machame Camp

Your journey begins with a drive from Moshi to Machame Gate, where registration procedures are completed before starting the climb. After a short briefing from your guide, you enter the rainforest zone, beginning your trek under a canopy of tall trees and dense vegetation. The trail is well-established but can be humid and slightly muddy in sections. The pace is steady and controlled, allowing your body to gradually adjust to altitude. As you ascend, the forest becomes quieter and cooler. You arrive at Machame Camp in the late afternoon, where you can relax, enjoy a warm meal, and rest in preparation for the next stage of your climb.

  • Elevation: 1,640m to 3,020m
  • Distance: 11 km
  • Hiking Time: 5–7 hours
  • Habitat: Rainforest
02

Day 2: Machame Camp to Shira Camp

After breakfast, the trek continues as the rainforest gradually transitions into moorland. The landscape opens up, offering expansive views of the mountain and surrounding valleys. Vegetation becomes more sparse, replaced by heathers and alpine plants adapted to higher altitude conditions. The climb is steeper than the previous day, but your guide maintains a comfortable and steady rhythm with regular breaks. As you reach the Shira Plateau, the scenery becomes wide and open, creating a sense of space and elevation before settling into Shira Camp for the evening.

  • Elevation: 3,020m to 3,850m
  • Distance: 5 km
  • Hiking Time: 4–6 hours
  • Habitat: Moorland
03

Day 3: Shira Camp to Lava Tower to Barranco Camp

Today is an important acclimatization stage designed to help your body adapt to higher altitude. You ascend gradually toward Lava Tower, where you spend time at a higher elevation before descending again to Barranco Camp. The terrain becomes more rugged and open, with a noticeable shift into alpine desert conditions. Although the altitude is more demanding, the “climb high, sleep low” approach helps improve your overall adaptation. Barranco Camp is located in a scenic valley beneath the dramatic Barranco Wall, offering a peaceful and sheltered environment for rest.

  • Elevation: 3,850m to 4,630m to 3,976m
  • Distance: 10 km
  • Hiking Time: 6–7 hours
  • Habitat: Alpine Desert
04

Day 4: Barranco Camp to Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp

The day begins with the ascent of the famous Barranco Wall, a steep but manageable section that rewards you with impressive views at the top. From there, the trail continues through rolling terrain toward Karanga Camp, where you take a short rest before proceeding to Barafu Camp. The environment becomes more exposed and rocky as you gain altitude, and the air grows thinner. Barafu Camp serves as the final base before the summit attempt, where you rest, hydrate, and prepare both physically and mentally for the night ahead.

  • Elevation: 3,976m to 4,673m
  • Distance: 9 km
  • Hiking Time: 7–9 hours
  • Habitat: Alpine Desert
05

Day 5: Barafu Camp to Uhuru Peak to Mweka Camp

The summit attempt begins just after midnight. Moving slowly and steadily under headlamps, you ascend through cold and dark conditions with continuous support from your guide team. The climb is demanding, but every step brings you closer to the summit. You first reach Stella Point on the crater rim, then continue along the edge toward Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa. The summit experience is quiet and deeply rewarding, often accompanied by sunrise above the clouds. After a short celebration, you begin your descent, returning briefly to Barafu before continuing down to Mweka Camp for rest.

  • Elevation: 4,673m to 5,895m to 3,100m
  • Distance: 5 km up + 12 km down
  • Hiking Time: 10–14 hours total
  • Habitat: Arctic / Alpine Desert to Rainforest
06

Day 6: Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate

The final descent takes you through the lush rainforest as you make your way down to Mweka Gate. The air becomes warmer and richer in oxygen, and the trail feels easier after the summit achievement. This is a reflective and peaceful part of the journey, allowing you to absorb the experience of the past days. Upon reaching Mweka Gate, you receive your summit certificate before transferring back to Moshi, marking the completion of your private Kilimanjaro climb.

  • Elevation: 3,100m to 1,640m
  • Distance: 10 km
  • Hiking Time: 3–4 hours
  • Habitat: Rainforest
