Overview – 6 Days Rongai Route

6 Days Rongai Route is the only trail that approaches Mount Kilimanjaro from the northern side, close to the Kenyan border. It is known for being quieter, drier, and less crowded than the popular southern routes such as the Machame Route or Lemosho Route.

The Rongai Route offers a more gradual ascent in the early days and passes through remote wilderness before joining the standard trail near Kibo Hut for the summit attempt. Because the northern slopes receive less rainfall, the weather is often more stable, especially during the rainy seasons.

This itinerary suits trekkers who prefer a peaceful experience and a different perspective of the mountain. While the 6-day version is popular, longer itineraries generally provide better acclimatization. For comparison, many climbers also consider the 7 Days Lemosho or 8 Days Lemosho for higher success rates.
